I went car shopping over the weekend. Dealership are so in the dark ages.  It was less hassle to refinance my house then to buy a car.  You had to wait for everything.  Wait for a salesperson, wait to get a key and plate to test drive, wait multiple times to get pricing from the manager.

Dealerships need to move into the internet age.  I posted a blog on Smarter Mojo with my impressions on how I think car dealers could do it better.  Check it out and see if you agree.

I’ve been studying NLP (NeuroLinquistic Programming) for a while now. I ran across this video that shows how, by emphasizing certain words, you can covertly program a person to accept an idea or concept.

The video quality is not the best but the concept is worth watching. It’s a video of Darren Brown influencing Simon Pegg concerning a birthday gift.

Update on New Year’s Resolution

I never did update you on the New Year’s resolution I posted over a year ago.  After reading The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman, and using what I had read, I have been down as low as more then 35 lbs. of weight loss.  I have managed to keep at around a 30 lb. weight loss.

My exercise has dropped off a bit for a variety of reasons and am planning to get back at it.  I ordered myself a copy of the book to re-read it since it has been one of the few things that has actually worked for me.

The Perfect Classroom?

I’ve been trying to imagine the perfect classroom.  In that perfect classroom student will be self-motivated and want to learn rather than just put in the time or have to be forced to do their work.

I have been teaching a long time.  Over the years I have tried a variety of things.  Some seem to help, some less so.  Yet this idea of a self-motivated student seem to be difficult to produce at will.  Some of my student that come in that way.  They are motivated, they get their work done, and are curious about things beyond their classwork.  Yet most are there to do the minimum required amount of work to get by.

In reading the book Why We Do What We Do: Understanding Self-Motivation, I’ve run across a couple of principles that are central to self-motivation.  They are autonomy and the sense of competence.

Autonomy is the ability to control your own environment. I’ve been trying to imagine what that would be like in a classroom.  Bribery or rewards may get someone to do something but when the rewards are gone they stop the activity.  How would one structure a classroom so that the student doesn’t just study for a test but studies to learn for whatever reason they choose.

That ties hand in hand with competence or the feeling that you understand and are good at whatever you are doing or studying.

So I’m going to working on ideas to foster those two principles in the classroom.  As I come up with ideas I will share them here.

Photoshop Gradient Map Effect

blue duckFloats

I love using Photoshop.  It allows you to create images that have a different look altogether.

These two pictures use the same technique that gives them this outer worldly appearance.  To create this effect I add to the image an gradient map adjustment layer.  The gradient map layer can be used to create a black and white image but the real magic is when you edit the gradient.  By going from light to dark to light to dark and over again you create this effect.  You can use as many changes you want in the gradient and you can use multiple color as in the case of the blue duck.  It uses black white and blue to create the effect.

I’ve been recommending the video series, Trick Photography and Special Effects as a way to get you started in your own creations.  It’s on sale now.

Photography and Photoshop

I’ve been doing photography for a long time.  Started off doing film and black and a black and white darkroom.  Always loved the creative part, when digital came around and especially Photoshop I was hooked.  The chance to make images that were more than just what you could shoot especially fascinated me.high-speed-water-splash-photography-fist-punch

I had my own studio and training center for several years.  Got the chance to experiment with a variety of things.  Was forced to close it when the economy tanked and I miss being able to play on a regular basis.

I found a course that teaches how to do the type of images I loved creating.

Infrared Scapes

It’s on sale right now.  I’ve spent hundreds on books in the past and and understand well the idea of learning new things. Check out the Trick Photography and Special Effects course and see if it is something you are interested in.

Have you ever tried to hypnotize someone in order to make them obey you?

Here’s an article from the people at disguised hypnosis.  Have any of you tried their product?

Have you ever tried to hypnotize someone in order to make them obey you?

Most people are curious about how to use hypnosis outside of clinical settings. But did you know that therapeutic hypnosis or stage hypnosis are not the types of hypnosis that the art of persuasion revolves around? Successful powerful people are not using language patterns or stage hypnosis to get the things they want. Powerful people are all (either accidentally or intentionally) using Disguised forms of hypnosis that are based upon hypnotic frames.
Disguised hypnosis is the only realistic program that allows you successfully persuade people to give you the things you want. These are the type of powerful persuasive techniques that politicians, world leaders, and wealthy people have used for years. People practicing Disguised Hypnosis have admitted to getting raises in their jobs, improving their relationships, getting the most powerful alliances in any social environment, and getting treated with more respect.

These strategies are only a click away, check it out:

Here’s the link to their page.

Mind Control

Do you think it’s possible to control someone else without them knowing?  As a kid you dream about having super powers over others and making them do what you want them to do.  Unfortunately it normally doesn’t seem to work.

The closest I have gotten to it is hypnosis.  I have been a certified hypnotist for several years now.  I don’t do clinical stuff, just play around for fun and help people once in a while.

I have seen some interesting stuff done with hypnosis.  Making people forget things or having them do something when something is said.  It seems to have a lot of potential and I have just scratched the surface with it. A friend of mine tells me he stopped smoking years ago using hypnosis.  I lost a bunch of weight (30 lbs) by using self hypnosis.  So great things are possible.

I found this link to a Disguised Hypnosis Program that looked interesting.  Have any of you had any experience with it?

Handwriting Analysis

I have been doing handwriting analysis for several years now.  I do it with my students quite often and they remark how accurate it is.  I always get the question where did you learn that from?  I took a home study course from a place called Handwriting University.  It was relatively simple process.

They have this thing called the Grapho Deck.  It’s a deck of cards with pictures of different handwriting traits on it and a description what it means.  You just match the pictures to the handwriting sample and you have your reading.

Here’s a banner link to a free analysis online.
